Spangled drongo        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Drongos are an old-world group of largely insectivorous blackish birds with "fishlike" forked tails.   This one, the spangled drongo (named for the bright spots on the chest), is found in forests across northern and eastern Australia.   These were near Darwin in the Northern Territory, and in Cairns in tropical Queensland; the latter has a very large stick insect, which it consumed completely over several minutes.
