Of the many species of honeyeaters in Australia, this is among the smallest and most colorful.   Scarlet honeyeaters are found along the eastern coast; in the 'top end' of the Northern Territory and Western Australia the similar red-headed honeyeater is found.  These males and greyish females were feeding at a blooming Grevillea in Julatten in tropical northeast Queensland.
