Lewin's honeyeater        Images © Mark A. Chappell

A great variety of honeyeaters are found throughout Australia.   This one is Lewin's honeyeater, a common and very noisy bird of mesic forest in eastern Australia.   It has a rattling call that somewhat resembles a machine gun (a loud and rapid and somewhat hoarse trill).   These were feeding in flowering shrubs in a coastal park in Wombarra, a small community in New South Wales north of the city of Wollongong, and on the Atherton Tablelands in far-north Queensland.
