Bower's shrike-thrush        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Bower's shrike-thrush is a bird of northeastern rainforests.   Like all shrike-thrushes, it is a plain-colored bird with a powerful, lovely song   It can be differentiated from the otherwise similar little shrike-thrush from its gray head.   These were photographed in a patch of forest on the Atherton Tablelands in far north Queensland, Australia.   One of these birds is confusing:   it has the gray head and back of Bower's but the pink-brown bill of the similar little shrike-thrush.   Since it was singing Bower's song, I assume it's the latter.
