Plain-brown woodcreeper        Images © Mark A. Chappell

A confusing array of woodcreepers -- slim birds that work their way up and down tree trunks and brances -- are found in the forests of Central and South America.   This one, the plain-brown woodcreeper, is -- as its name implies -- one of the most simply marked, with few stripes, spots, etc. except for a malar stripe.   The bird was photographed on the old Gamboa road trail near the 'Summit' on the road between Panama City and Gamboa, Panama.
