The pine flycatcher is a highland Mexican species is extremely rare in the US. They have a fairly distinctive call but resemble many other Empidonax flycatchers. Important field marks are overall olive-gray coloration, a prominent eyering, entirely yellow-orange lower mandible, and a grayish throat. This bird -- the second North American record -- was photographed near Rose Lake in the Catalina Mountains of Arizona. |
