Many-colored rush-tyrant       Images © Mark A. Chappell

The many-colored rush-tyrant is a spectacular little marsh-dwelling flycatcher from the Neotropics.   They live in reedbeds and like many marsh-dwelling birds, are secretive and often difficult to see.   These were at Huacarpay Lake, near Cusco in southern Peru.   They were quite shy and these images have been strongly cropped from the original.   I like the species' Chilean name better: siete colores, or 'seven colors.'
