The numerous species of jays around the world all seem to have a strong family resemblance.   European jays strongly remind me of Stellar's jays in North America in size, shape, and actions, although the colors are quite different (both species share at least some bright blue plumage).  In Poland, where these photos were taken, most jays we encountered were fairly shy.   Most of the birds shown here were attending some picnic tables on a popular trail in the Tatra Mountains, and were quite comfortable around people.   Another photo was taken in Bialowieza, in north-eastern Poland.
