Gray jay        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Gray jays are common in heavily forested areas in much of northern North America, especially in boreal regions.   They vary a little in color from place to place; these were living in black spruce woodlands along the Glenn Highway in south-central Alaska, and near Anchorage, Alaska.   Young birds are dark dusky gray overall.
