Inca jay        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The Inca jay is currently considered as the Andean subspecies of the green jay, which is found as far north as Texas.   However, Inca jays are distinct enough that they are very likely to be split into a different species.   Regardless of taxonomy, they are lovely birds; these were photographed near San Pedro, at about 1500 m altitude on the Manu Road in southeastern Peru, and near Cali, Colombia.
