The common crow is a familiar and obvious resident of most of North America; it has some close relatives including the somewhat smaller northwestern crow found in coastal Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska. The two species have similar habits and appearance, but can be separated by voice and distribution. All crows are conspicuous, noisy, highly social, and very intelligent birds that are quick to take advantage of human habitation and food. These crows were in Monterey County, California, Escondido, California, and at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico. |
