White-tailed hillstar        Images © Mark A. Chappell

White-tailed hillstars are fairly large hummingbirds; like many hummers, they appear fairly dull from many angles but their throat and chest glows bright blue when the light is optimal (flash helped with these).   I took the photos near feeders in mid-altitude forest at Montezuma Lodge near Tatama National Park, Colombia.
