White-naped jacobin        Images © Mark A. Chappell

White-naped jacobins, along with rufous-tailed hummingbirds dominated the feeders we set up around our back porch in Gamboa, Panama (some images were made near Cali, Colombia).   Jacobins were particularly aggressive and territorial, and therefore were very easy to photograph -- aside from their quick reflexes and high speed.   The males, with their blue hoods, green highlights, and brilliant white bellies and tails, are very striking but the greenish females are also attractive.
