Peru has a lot of hummingbird species, and this one is among the most unusual and spectacular. It is fairly large, with a long black-and-white tail and striking white undersides -- very different from most hummingbirds. They live in dry highland habits; this one was photographed near Cuzco, Peru, as it preened and stretched. Unfortunately it perched in a thick bush and not in the open. |
