The 'Port Lincoln' parrot is one of a group of 'ringneck' parrots that are either separate species or races, depending on one's taxonomic point of view. Port Lincolns are common in the south and southwest parts of Australia, but the also penetrate into the center of the continent. This bird was almost at the geographic center of Australia; it was photographed in a eucalyptus tree in the campground at Ormiston Gorge National park, west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.
