bluish-fronted jacamar        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Jacamars are slender, glittery-plumaged forest birds from the Neotropics.   They are usually fairly small, like the bluish-fronted jacamar shown here, but can be fairly hefty, as is the great jacamar.   These birds (male and female) were photographed near a small pond near Pantiacolla Lodge in the Peruvian Amazon.
