The perched belted kingfishers in these images are two of the very few of these shy birds that permitted brief photo opportunities. The male is at upper left and the female (identified as female by her rusty breast band) is at right and below. Both were fishing along small channels, the male in Big Cypress Preserve in Florida. The other birds were at Bolsa Chica wetlands in coastal Orange County, California, and the San Jacinto Wildlife Area near Riverside, California. More images are on this page.
