The roadside hawk, a small buteo, is a common bird throughout most of the Neotropics. As their name implies, they are frequently seen along the edges of roads and other open areas. They have striking chestnut-colored flight feathers when airborn (faintly visible here). One of these was sitting on the bank of the Manu River; another was near Pantiacolla Lodge, both in southeastern Peru, and the birds below were near Cali, Colombia. |
