Pale chanting goshawk        Images © Mark A. Chappell

One of a closely-related pair of distinctive African raptors, pale chanting goshawks frequent arid shrublands and plains. The bird in the photograph was extremely intent on catching a lizard under the bush it was sitting in and paid almost no attention as I drove a car to within 5 meters and parked. The picture was taken in Samburu Game Reserve in northern Kenya.
