Golden eagle        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Golden eagles are widespread and not uncommon in many places in western North America.   They are an impressive site when perched or in flight, and surprisingly often they are accompanied by ravens or red-tailed hawks when they soar.   The young birds shown here were at the San Jacinto Wildlife Area in southern California.
