Several species of chachalacas -- slim chickenlike birds -- occur occur in Central and South America, one, the plain chachalaca, makes it as far north as southeastern Texas.  Chachalacas are remarkably noisy and social; flocks often make an impressive racket at dawn, or when calling to each other.   This one was photographed at Pantiacolla Lodge in southeastern Peru.
