Although they are not particularly common, lappet-faced vultures are dominant over all other east African vultures in contests over access to carcasses.   They are enormous birds with huge, strong beaks that can break through tough animal hides, as the one in the lower picture is doing.   These were photographed in Nairobi National Park, Kenya.
