Brown-hooded gull; Chilean name Gaviota cahuil        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Brown-hooded gulls are typical small 'hooded' gulls and are common in Patagonia and much of the rest of Chile.   The resting birds were photographed on a very windy day in Puerto Natales, in southern Chile.   The flying gulls were attending the fish market in downtown Valdivia, about 1000 km to the north of Puerto Natales.
