Andean gulls are typical dark-headed gulls of medium size, closely resembling other species such as Franklin's or Bonaparte's gulls, except that as their name suggests they breed at high altitudes in the Andes. These breeding-plumage adults were photographed on a small lake near Cusco, Peru.
