These odd little ducks are named for the tiny hard-to-see pink spot behind the eye; an Australian birder I met observed that a better name might be 'zebra duck' and I agree.   Pink-eared ducks occur through most of Australia; these were at Hasties Swamp National Park in far-north Queensland. They never came close enough for a really good photo.
