One of the best places to photograph sandhill cranes at Bosque is at the 'Crane Pools' (as they are informally named) adjacent to New Mexico Highway 1 near the north end of the Refuge. There are usually some cranes and sometimes geese that roost here, and the evening arrival and morning departures can offer great opportunities for photography. Sometimes the sunset is spectacular unto itself, as on the two evenings in November 2012 pictured here and here. |
