The Bosque del Apache refuge in central New Mexico supports thousands of sandhill cranes and snow geese during with winter season, along with a few bald eagles who come to feed on sick and injured waterfowl. These morning views looking to the east were photographed on different days from slightly different places on the 'Flight Deck' observation area. Many photographers who visit Bosque notice eagles on this perch, but don't know that the tree didn't grow in the marsh. Instead, a dead snag was 'planted' there by the Refuge staff -- specifically as a resting place for eagles. |
