Blue geese        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The 'blue' color morph of the snow goose is fairly common in eastern North America but very scarce in the west; roughly 2-3% of the snow goose population shows blue goose characteristics.   They have variable amounts of dark coloration, as can be seen in these images.   These geese were photographed at the Bosque del Apache refuge in central New Mexico (the image at upper right was taken late in the afternoon, lending a warm tone to the bird).
Pictures of feeding or swimming blue geese are here.
