Coast live oaks covered with 'Spanish moss' are icons of central California; for me they evoke lots of memories of childhood in Monterey County. Like eastern deciduous trees, many oak species in California 'color up' and drop their leaves in the fall and winter. These were growing in upper Carmel Valley. |
