Desert bluebells (Canterbury bells)        Images © Mark A. Chappell

These lovely flowers (Phacelia campanularia) closely resemble the more coastal species of Canterbury bells (P. minor) but are a more intense blue color, and are found in arid deserts after good rains.  These were growing along washes at the south end of Joshua Tree National Park in southeastern California.
