Hermit warblers are birds of northwestern forests that pass through California on migration.   I photographed these at Crane Flat, in Yosemite National Park, California and in Riverside, CA, on migration).   Breeding-plumage males have a brilliant yellow face and crown, with a black rim and throat.   More photos of this species are here.
