Hermit warbler        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Hermit warblers are birds of northwestern forests that pass through California on migration.   I photographed the female in late summer migration through Crane Flat, in Yosemite National Park, California.  Males (right, photographed in Riverside, CA, on migration) have a brilliant yellow face and crown, with a black rim and throat.
