Andean lapwing        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Like the European lapwing, the southern lapwing of lowland Latin America, and to some extent like the North American kildeer, Andean lapwings are large dryland plovers with loud calls and a somewhat prissy attitude towards intruders like humans.   They are found in fields and grasslands at high altitudes in the Andes range; these were photographed near Cusco, Peru on a cloudy day.
