Polynesian tattler        Images © Mark A. Chappell

This small shorebird looks very much like its near relative, the wandering tattler.   Polynesian tattlers breed in northern Asia and winter in the Old World tropics, while the wandering tattler winters in the New World.   They also spend more time on mudflats than wandering tattlers, which tend to be found on rocks.   This one was photographed on mudflats at the Cairns Esplanade, Queensland, Australia.
