News in Yin Group

2022

Professor Yadong Yin was awarded the 2022 Langmuir Lectureship Award for elucidating fundamental mechanisms of nanocrystal core and surface transformations, generating precise control over nanocrystal structure and the assembly of useful colloidal materials.

The Langmuir Prize Lectureship is awarded by the American Chemical Society and is meant to recognize and encourage outstanding interdisciplinary research in chemistry.

Prof. Yadong Yin has been elected to the class of 2020 MRS Fellows. This highly selective distinction honors the members of Materials Research Society who are notable for their distinguished research accomplishments and their outstanding contributions to the advancement of materials research, world-wide.

Professor Yadong Yin was chosen as one of the recipients of the NML Researcher Award 2016 by the journal of Nano-Micro Letters in partnership with the Nature Research Society. The NML Researcher Award is established to recognize research excellence in the field of nano and micro science, with special consideration to those who have continuously made outstanding contributions to the development of science in last three years.

Researchers earn the distinction by writing the greatest numbers of Highly Cited Papers - ranking among the top 1% most cited in their subject field. Professor Yadon Yin has accepted a position as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Materials Chemistry C published by the Royal Society of Chemistry. This is a three year term starting on April 1. The Journal of Material Chemistry was established in 1991. In 2013 it was replaced by three new independent journals (A-energy and sustainability, B-biology and medicine,C-optical, magnetic and electronic devices).

September 2013

Michael Janner, a high school student at Redlands East Valley High School, won a $10,000 Scholarship from the Davidson Institute for his research on nano-mirrors and photonic crystals. This award recognizes students 18 and under in a variety of fields who "have completed a significant piece of work".

June, 2013

2013 IUPAC Prizes for Young Chemists Qiao Zhang has been selected by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) to receive one of the five 2013 IUPAC Prizes for Young Chemists. According to IUPAC, the prizes are given for the most outstanding Ph.D. theses in the general area of the chemical sciences. In addition to a cash prize of USD 1000, Qiao was provided travel expenses to the 44th IUPAC World Chemistry Congress, 8-15 August 2013, in Istanbul, Turkey, where he was invited to present a poster to describe his award-winning work.

Michael Janner, a freshman at Redlands East Valley High School, won first place in his division at the California State Science Fair in Sacramento for his project "Synthesis and Manipulation of Silver and Gold Nano-Mirrors." He also competed in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, and won four awards.

Tri Pham's Youtube video "What is the Color of Silver?" was selected as one of the winning entries in the NSF supported "Nationwide Undergraduate Chemistry Video Competition".  The project was carried out under Qiao's supervision.  Tri received an all-expense-paid trip to the 238th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Washington D.C. (August 16, 2009) and presented his video to a national audience!

Zhenda Lu and Jianping Ge created a landscape painting by self-assembling polystyrene microspheres. They won the second place award in the "Science as Art" competition at the MRS meeting in Boston.

Sheba S. Plamthottam, a junior in Upland High School, has won the 4th place in California State Science Fair Competition in the Chemistry category.  Under Jianping's supervision, she carried out a project entitled "Green Preparation and Characterization of Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanocrystals"

Tierui Zhang's general method for transferring hydrophobic nanocrystals into water was reported in Nano Lett, and highlighted in Science.

Jianping Ge's paper on magnetically tunable photonic crystals was accepted for publication in Angew. Chem. as a VIP (very important paper) and cover article.

the group's first paper by Jianping Ge on magnetite nanocrystal clusters  was accepted for publication in Angew. Chem.
