DIPTERA, Odiniidae

Odiniidae is a small family of Diptera with about 60 described species, some of which occur throughout the world.  The few species of Odinia that have been studied give little biological information.  Some larvae are known to occur in the tunnels of wood-boring larvae of Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, and other Diptera.  They function as scavengers or predators of the host larvae. One species, Turanodinia coccidarum Stackelberg, has been reared from the egg masses of the mealbug Pseudococcus comstocki Kuwana.
