Checkered White (LEP25) Pieris protodice This
is a common butterfly of open spaces.
Through the seasons it varies greatly in appearance, but it always has
a white base with darker markings.
Females tend to be more heavily spotted than males. Marks on the underside of the forewings
are charcoal-black, while those on the hindwing are olive-green. The drawing shows it taking nectar from
spreading dogbane. |
