Pavon (LEP123) Patterned
like the admirals, this species is actually related to the hackberry
butterflies. Dusky whitish bands
cross the wings, which shine deep purple when struck by direct sunshine. The patches near the forewing tips glow
bright orange. Very different, the
underside is light tan with a white band, black eyespots, and brown
lines. This species occurs primarily
in Mexico, but occasionally drifts into Texas. |
