Nokomis Fritillary (LEP102) Speyeria nokomis A
large and rather rare fritillary of the southwestern mountains. Because it occurs around moisture in
generally arid areas, drainage and water diversion threaten its
survival. The female shown is taking
nectar from a thistle, a favorite activity of the fritillaries. The wings are olive green, banded with
pale yellow toward the outside. The
spots in rows are shining silver, and the forewing is flushed with pink at
the base. |
