Research on Chalcidoid Systematics University of California, Riverside Economically and Ecologically, Chalcidoidea are among the most important insects. More than 19,000 names are available but more than 100,000 species are thought to exist. We have a strong working group on the systematics of Chalcidoidea, with two faculty members (John Heraty and John Pinto), a principle museum scientist (Serguei Triapitsyn), a senior museum scientist (Doug Yanega), and five graduate students (Roger Burks, James Munro, Albert Owen, Johan Liljeblad, and Matt Buffington [for now, eucoilids are honorary chalcidoids]). Various research projects are underway as indicated below.
