Kamehameha (LEP142) One
of two native Hawaiian butterflies, its name commemorates the former Hawaiian
king. The largest and brightest of
the painted ladies, it may be found in forests and clearings on all the major
islands of Hawaii. The outer tip of
the forewings is black with white spots.
The rest is brilliant red-orange with black markings. Long brown hairs make the part of the
wings near the body more ruddy than the rest. |
