Compton Tortoiseshell (LEP125) Nymphalis vau-album

The name Atortoishell@ comes from the blending of orange, tawny and black above.  There is one white spot on each wing, near the upper, outer edge.  The Compton lives in cooler woodlands, where it is camouflaged against tree trunks.  Predators are startled when it flies because of its bright colors.
