| LEPIDOPTERA, Pyraustidae --  <Images> & <Juveniles>
Dicymolomia julianalis Wlk. preys on eggs of the
bagworm, Thyridopteryx ephemeraeformis Haw. in North America
(Gahan 1909).  As much as 30% of the
bags were found infested, and a single larva consumed the entire egg
contents.  The cocoon is spun at the
free end of the bag.  Dicymolomia has the normal habit of
being a scavenger in the heads of cattail (Typha sp.).  Balduf (1937)
believed that this species was not primarily predaceous, but that the eggs
are destroyed incident to the preparation of a hibernaculum. References:   Please refer to  <biology.ref.htm>, [Additional
