The coastal and southern half of the State
of California has acquired a number of exotic parrot species, most of which
are of Neotropical origin. This has
occurred primarily through escapes from commercial and private sources. Reproduction and hybridization of several
species in urban areas especially has been frequently observed. As of 2006 there have been no reports of
widespread damage to crops, although backyard fruit trees have occasionally
been attacked. Species that are believed to have established
in California as of 2020 are the following: |
