I find it rewarding to be involved in efforts to engage with the general public:

Visualizing DNA Similarity

It was fortuitous that I was invited to join the project to develop a visually appealing way to describe similarities in DNA sequences.  I am glad that I got to participate, albeit to a minimal degree.

Evolution of Human Longevity

I was a co-author of the paper asking when humans started to have a lot of old folks around.  We were surprised at the publicity involved with our research; people were quite happy to hear that there was some evidence for advantages in growing old.  Seeing how the news spread through a wide range of scientific and popular news media, I was waiting for a call from Hollywood.  Alas, that didn't happen.

Cannibalism: The Good, the Bad, and the Deadly

I thought the topic would be great for a UCR Freshman Discovery Seminar, drawing in unsuspecting first-year college students into the field of anthropology.  It is one of the fascinating aspects of anthropology, to examine anything (and everything) about human culture, compare, and understand.
