The Journal of Insect Science publishes papers in all aspects of the
biology of insects and other arthropods from the molecular to the
ecological. The Journal is edited and published on the World Wide Web
by the University of Arizona as a collaborative project between the
Faculty and Library of the University. Our guiding principle is that
academic institutions should be involved in publishing scholarly work
with as few impediments as possible to free access to information.
The Journal of Insect Science is
currently supported by the Library of the University of Arizona and
will be freely available to individuals and institutions. It provides
an alternative to excessively priced commercial publications in insect
biology. It is the vehicle of choice for the publication of
high-quality, rigorously refereed reports on the biology of insects
and other arthropods.
The Journal of Insect Science has an
international scope with a broad constituency of scientists interested
in the biology of insects and their agricultural and medical impact.
An outstanding group of Associate Editors and Editorial Board members
set standards that ensures the quality of the Journal. Peer review of
manuscripts is overseen by members of the Editorial Board. Copyright
will belong to the authors or their employers, with limited rights to
the Journal to insure our right to maintain the articles on line and
in archives. The University of Arizona Library will maintain the
archive as part of its digital library initiatives program.
The Journal of Insect Science will
have connections with professional societies. We are arranging for
published papers to be included in PubMed Central that will guarantee
wide visibility for your paper and provide reference links to full
text articles. The Journal of Insect Science is a "Leading Edge"
Partner of SPARC (The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources
Coalition), which is an association of 180 academic libraries
dedicated to encouraging alternatives to commercial publishing of
academic work.
Call for Papers
The Journal of Insect Science is ready to accept submissions of
manuscripts for publication. You can submit your manuscript
electronically, as an attachment to an e-mail message, or you can
submit it by post. If you choose the latter, please include a diskette
or zip disk with the electronic version of the manuscript. The text
can be in either Word, or Word Perfect, or Rich Text Format (RTF).
You may include digitized color
figures or photographs, sound and video. Images can be in JPEG, GIF,
TIFF or Photoshop. We can scan and digitize any figures that you
submit but the quality of micrographs will be higher if you submit
them in a digital form.
If you wish to submit sound or video
please contact me for instructions.
You may also include larger sets of
data such as sequence alignments, statistical analyses, detailed
experimental descriptions, etc. The format of the manuscripts should
include an abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results and
discussion.
References should by cited in the
text as follows (Smith et al., 2000). The reference style will be:
Smith AB, Jones KS, Doe JP. 2000. How to publish quality papers
on-line. J Insect Science 1:100-112.
Books should be cites as follows: Zar
JH. 1996. Biostatistical Analysis, 3rd edition. Prentice Hall.
Articles in a book should be cited as

hormone action. In: Kerkut GA, Gilbert LI, editors. Comprehensive
