Partnerships for Enhancing Expertise in Taxonomy

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this study include revealing the genetic variation of 28S D2, ITS2, and COI region in Aphytis. A monographic revision of the Aphytis lignanensis group and the development of species-specific markers will be developed with the help of molecular characters. Distinctive morphological characters will be reevaluated as well as molecular analysis. The combined data of morphology and molecules can shed light on the relationship of the groups and other closely related groups. There have not been any cladistic studies of this group, nor any phylogenetic or molecular studies. Rosen and DeBach proposed a phylogeny (Figure 5), which was the only published species group relationship of Aphytis. However the relationship is based on their intuition and is subject to further analyses. Research project of mine will sample taxa initially based on this proposed phylogeny.
