The University of California, Riverside invites applications for a Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellowship in the area of observational or theoretical Astronomy and/or Cosmology. These fellowships are awarded annually in Science, Engineering and Mathematics to promising potential tenure-track applicants who have an interest in cultivating diversity in science. The duration of the fellowship is 2 years and the successful candidate will work in collaboration with one or more faculty members at UCR in the area of his/her choice. Up to $10,000 per year is available for travel and research support. The salary offered by the fellowship will be adjusted to match the candidate's qualifications.

The University of California, Riverside, is undergoing major expansion in Astronomy, with a number of new faculty positions in this area planned for the next few years. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application, and must have no more than 3 years of postdoctoral experience at a university or other academic institution. Interested candidates in any area of Astronomy/Cosmology are encouraged to apply. For queries please contact Prof. B. Mobasher (bahram.mobasher@ucr.edu), Prof. G. To apply, send two copies of the following: 1) curriculum vitae, 2) statement of proposed research (up to 5 pages, including an explanation of the project, the faculty member(s) who would serve as mentors, and a brief discussion of how the work would build on the applicantŐs dissertation research), 3) at least 2 publications or dissertation chapters, 4) three letters of reference, one of which must be from the dissertation advisor, and 5) a brief statement about any of the candidateŐs activities that have helped to foster diversity among scientists (e.g., mentoring programs or outreach). In addition, a brief statement from the proposed faculty mentor(s) agreeing to advise the applicant must be provided. Materials should be sent by mail to the address above and must be postmarked by January 15, 2008. The recipient of the award will be announced in March, 2008.
