Nevada Hills, from Mt. Barcroft        Images © Mark A. Chappell

At 3,800 meters elevation (12,450 feet), the White Mountain Research Station facility on Mt. Barcroft, in California's White Mountains, has a superb view.   One can see for great distances east into Nevada across most of the 'Basin and Range' country -- and on an especially clear day, all the way into Utah, several hundred kilometers eastward.   The color variations as the light changes from pre-dawn to early morning are striking, and I've attempted to capture some of them in these images.
