Evening light, White Mountains        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The 'crest' of the White Mountains is a complex geological mixture and one prominent feature are dry, pale hills of eroded dolomite rock.   I took this photograph just before sunset from the Barcroft Laboratory (3,800 m; 12,500 feet), looking southeast below Sheep Mountain.
