Summer snowfall in the White Mountains        Images © Mark A. Chappell

In the Whites, snow can fall at any time of the year, but it seldom remains for long during the summer.   This late-summer storm dropped a brief layer of snow in early September.   These views were taken at an altitude of about 3,800 meters (12,500 feet) near the Barcroft Lab.   I used a graduated neutral-density filter to get appropriate exposures on both the sky and the ground.
